Celebrating the Life of Kit Collins, rscj

On Thursday March 18, 2010, Sister Kit Collins passed away at her home in Washington, DC. She lived her life as an advocate for the poor, a champion of justice, and a true example of the expansive and unconditional love of Christ. Through her ministry in education and at the Center for Educational Design and Communication, she touched innumerable lives, making the world a better place for all those who crossed her path. Share a Kit story here.

Our senior designer is January's featured "Alumni in Design" at DC AIGA

Our senior designer, Laryn Kragt Bakker, is the featured "Alumni in Design" at the Dordt College AIGA student group site. He discusses his background, CEDC, and his recently published novel, and he shows some sample designs. See the excerpt below, or read the entire thing and view the design samples at DC AIGA.

Shortly after refreshing and updating the look and feel of our website, we began revising our stationery set for consistency, incorporating the same bands of watercolor texture and the same style into our business cards, letterhead, and envelopes (as well as some internal signage in the building).

CEDC does Facebook

As part of the unveiling of our new online presence, we've set up a Facebook page and a Facebook cause for ourselves. Our goal is to make connecting effortless for people who work with the organizations that we are here to serve, and to make it easy to share the work that both we and our partners are doing. We invite you to become a fan of CEDC on Facebook, or to join our cause -- and if you are one of our partners and you have a Facebook page or cause, let us know: we'll add you to our page as well.

We finally carved out the time to freshen the look and feel and rebuilt our site from the ground up.

We used Drupal for its extensibility and for the ability to cross-reference the type of design with the partner we worked with as well as any keywords we added for a design. Custom theming also allowed us to link the partner pages to a list of the other projects that we've worked on with them, and in the design pages, to automatically generate an image gallery based on the filepaths for graphics we've uploaded for the project.

The cobbler's children just got some shoes

Sometimes our internal projects keep getting pushed back as those of our partners take priority -- "the cobbler's children always go without shoes," as Kit likes to say. We've finally managed to overhaul the website, though, with a brand new look and feel on top and a powerful content management system underneath.
