Bookmark and Share

If you're considering a site revision or complete site redo, you may be interested in this recent report by Idealware, comparing four major CMS systems: Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal and Plone. (We implement sites in Joomla and Drupal at present, depending on the functional requirements of the site at hand). This report may be worth paging through if you want to get a better overview of each of the systems., and if you have any specific questions feel free to contact us.

You can download the report here. From the report's introduction:

Idealware report: Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, PloneIn this report, we...rate [the CMS's] on a variety of criteria, including system flexibility, features, ease of use and the availability of support. We chose these systems because they’re the most popular four in the nonprofit sector today, according to our analysis...Keep in mind, however, that a system is only one part of the equation. The person or firm that designs and builds your Web site is likely to be as important as what CMS you choose.

No report can answer all the questions that anyone might have. If you’re planning to spend $100,000 or more on a Web site, get tens of thousands of visitors a day or have detailed questions about sophisticated functionality, you’ll need to look beyond this report to get the additional information you’ll need to choose from these four systems. But if you’re a small to midsized organization, whether your needs are simple or sophisticated and your technical knowledge is shallow or deep, this report can provide you with a good overview. Taking the time to read through it carefully can save you a lot of work and money.

CMS comparisons

Great information. Personally I have been developing primarily in Wordpress but have been wanting to branch out. This info really helps deciding which systems I should focus on Thanks,

WordPress, Joomla, Drupal

Thanks for the comprehensive report. I found this useful for my own work. I have recently started using WordPress for my own blog after moving from Blogger and found a few problems but lots of benefits in the move. But I have read some reports that say the best option is Joomla plus WordPress on the side for anything other than a blog. I plan on exploring that myself in my own work.
Thanks again - I have linked to this from my blog
